Event date: 16 February 2017
For the first business briefing of the year, Vincent Cassard, Head of the Regional Delegation, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was the guest speaker with KPMG being our sponsor. The event took place on the 16 February at the Inanda Club.
Mr Cassard shared examples of the excellent humanitarian work done by the ICRC through presentation of the topic “An analysis of key crises across the African continent”. The focus was on conflict experienced in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, South Sudan and Lake Chad. He also mentioned that the mode of engagement of the organisation had evolved from “Do no harm” to “Co-Creation” over the last 16 years. This requires the ICRC to develop a constructive dialogue with all actors who may have an influence on situations of armed conflict. Specifically the ICRC finds it necessary to engage with the business community to bring innovative technologies to humanitarian work.
“I attend a lot of events but the British Chamber events are by far the best. Topics are insightful, speakers are impressive and great networking opportunities are presented.” – Tinus Human, Santa Fe Relocation Services
“It was a privilege to engage with the drivers of Africa’s Red Cross humanitarian efforts and gain insight into challenges faced.” – Joel Singh, IEA
