Event date: 14 June 2017
New British High Commissioner Nigel Casey is no stranger to South Africa. He shared with guests at June’s Cape Town networking reception, some recollections of his time spent serving in Johannesburg around the 1994 elections. He reminded us that the relative peace and stability we experience today, could not be taken for granted at the time as the natural outcome of the transition to democracy. He moved on to address member questions related to the Brexit process and UK/SA trade. He discussed the potential opportunities offered by the new trade agreement that will be negotiated. And he demonstrated the depth and breadth of the relationship between the UK and South Africa, covering areas such as defense, science and innovation, and more. As Chamber patron, he also commented on the energy and dynamism evident within the Chamber membership. He urged members to “be part of determining the future shape of the SA/UK economic partnership”.
